A bit of a travel blog moment featuring my trip to Spain!
Friends! I recently got home from traveling abroad—my family and I spent two weeks in Spain. So, I want to take this post to share some of the adventures we went on throughout our trip!
Before I begin, can I just say how beautiful the world is? How wonderful it is that our world is made up of unique peoples, cultures, and experiences! I love it. Anyways, here's how this post is going to be set up. We stayed in three different cities but travelled to four, so I'm going to pick my favorite part from each city that we went to.
1. Sevilla
Sevilla was my favorite city that we went to on our trip, it's the perfect blend of touristy energy and authentic Spanish culture. While I feel like I could talk about Sevilla for a whole blog post, one of the major highlights of this city is the Catedral de Sevilla, the cathedral located right in the heart of the city. It's a Catholic church that was built in the 16th century, but is still used for mass today. Another fun fact about the cathedral: one of the treasures that is housed within its walls has the second largest pearl in the world. We were able to see it on our tour, it really is stunning. If you have the chance to stand inside of this place for yourself, do it!
2. Nerja
Nerja is a coastal town located on the southern part of Spain, right on the Alboran Sea. I'm sure you're not going to be surprised that my favorite part of Nerja was the ability to sit on the beach. It was a much needed middle part of the trip, between the chaos of being touristy and navigating a place we'd never been before. I mean, I'd never even been to Europe! So, the laid back flow of Nerja was the perfect pick-me-up to keep exploring Spain. However, if you go to Nerja, make sure you go to the Balcón de Europa, which provides a beautiful view of the Spanish coastline.
3. Granada
The highlight of Granada was visiting the Alhambra. Its name means "Red Castle" in Arabic, in honor of the red-colored walls. My family and I were able to be a part of a guided tour in order to fully appreciate the architecture and history of the Alhambra. Something that particularly stood out to me was the mixture of religious influences in every room: Muslim, Catholic, and Jewish. My favorite part, however, was the royal gardens; if you let me walk through those on my own, I would be entertained for hours. The Alhambra is absolutely stunning, the photos truly don't do it justice.
4. Madrid
Finally, we arrive in Madrid! I feel as though Madrid could be compared as the New York of Spain. It's a bigger city full of the hustle and bustle, but it also carries a lot of culture within it. Quick plug: the food here was absolutely incredible. Of course, I loved the food throughout the trip, but especially here. However, that is not my one highlight that I want to share with you. My family and I were able to tour the Palace Real, the royal palace of Madrid. We weren't allowed to take pictures for the majority of the tour, since the royal family of Spain still uses the palace today, but this is a picture of the ceiling in the main entryway of the palace. Isn't it just breathtaking?!
Oh the Places You'll Go!
I don't know if you have any plans to travel soon but if you're looking for your next destination, I would 1,000/10 recommend Spain. It's a vibrant place that should be on everyone's bucket list. Also, make sure you eat the Iberico ham—it's a game changer. Here's to more summer adventures!
