June's quote of the month from my very wise father!
"Be aware of whose lens you're looking through." - Brendon Wanebo
I had been talking to my dad about a research project that I was assigned for one of my classes this year. It was one of those "form your own opinion" sort of things, so I wanted to see both sides of the argument. However, the information I came upon was incredibly biased and narrow-minded; essentially, I had a hard time seeing from both sides. So, I decided to work with what I had. This meant that my vision was somewhat obscured by biased information, and this is what my Dad had to say to that.
Why Does This Quote Matter?
This quote is short and simple, but it holds so much power and wisdom for everyone. We live in a media-driven world, but we often forget who is influencing the media. There's always a bias, even when authors or sites claim that there isn't.
I just wanted to share this friendly reminder, especially because our opinions are formulated by the media. Make sure you try to see from both sides when you're trying to take a stance on anything or choose one side of a debate over another. By doing so, you will foster an attitude of understanding and empathy, two things that are greatly needed in this world.
