October Quote of the Month to inspire you to keep pushing through this rather difficult school year!
"Education is important because it's easy to control stupid people." - Emily Mastalerz
In context, this quote had to do with 20th century Russia and the Bolshevik regime. In our musical theatre class, we were looking at the setting of a song from the musical Anastasia. Somehow this conversation spiraled into why the Russians were oppressed, and education was a major factor because the people didn't know the truth, so they knew no need to fight back.
I think this quote applies to our current situation with school—especially its instability.
Why Does This Quote Matter?
As a senior, I can already see the senioritis creeping into the work ethic of my classmates. Let me tell you: senior year is much harder than what I was told it would be. It's a lot of work to balance school, delayed standardized testing, college applications, friends, and after school activities at the same time. On top of that, we're in a conflicted society that creates a lot of tension between neighbors, friends, families, and strangers.
The only way to grow is through learning. The only way to instigate change is through knowledge. The only way to learn and obtain knowledge is through education.
Personally, this quote reminded me the power that knowledge has and the opportunities that it can create. With this in mind, I thought of all the wonderful teachers I've had the privilege to learn from; it's because of these incredible people that I can make a change in the world. If nothing else, I hope this encourages you to keep pushing in your school life because it is so important to your future, no matter what you do.
