Do you have 20/20 vision? Maybe, but do you have a 2020 vision?
If you search "vision board" on Pinterest, thousands of fantastic collages pop up instantly. They are popular ways to set goals for the year (or for whatever season in your life) while disconnecting from technology in order to create. My mom was the one who introduced me to this craze last year. I think it's such a great idea and they're super fun to make, especially this year when you can make 2020 vision puns!
How to Make a Vision Board
Now I must warn you, this is about to get complicated. Buckle up your seat belts and hold on tight. Here come the steps!
1. GATHER MATERIALS
2. GET CRAFTING!
It's that simple! But allow me to elaborate. For this craft, you need scissors, magazines, markers, construction paper, glue, and a foam core board. Some great magazines that I've used for this project are Women's Health, Real Simple, and food magazines. From here, you'll cut out words, pictures, quotes, and anything else that catches your eye. Once you think that you have enough, glue them on. (feel free to draw or write things onto the board if you can't find them in the magazines) Ta-da! You've made a vision board!
“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” - Helen Keller
It is so incredibly important to set goals and see what you want to achieve in the future. Having hope for the future gives us purpose. Vision boards are great ways to streamline your hopes, dreams, and desires for the future. Plus, they're super fun to make!
My 2020 Vision
This is the vision board I created this year. It all began as I cut out the footprints and pasted "2020 Vision" on them, as this board will represent the steps to achieve my vision.
The bottom section of the board represents the base on which I'm building my vision. They're little reminders to myself that will allow me to "strip away stress," be spontaneous, and "be happier" (as seen on the upper part of the board). It's so important to have a strong foundation, specifically with self-confidence, if I hope to grow in any way this year.
As for the parts above the footprints, these are the things I'm reaching towards this year. A lot of the pictures and words are centered around stress or mental health. Junior year, while it has been a blessing in many ways, is when people really put on the pressure to know everything about your future. Fun fact: I don't know exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life at the age of 17. I want to make sure that I'm enjoying high school and my friends, so I picked words/photos/quotes that would encourage me to be in the moment.
You can learn a lot about someone through a vision board. Something I hope you can see about me is that I have a hope for a better future, for healing, happiness, community, empathy.
Throwback: My 2019 Vision
This was the first vision board I'd ever made. Something that is very important to me is laughter. I believe that it is one of the greatest gifts you can give someone; hence, there are multiple quotes about laughter. In 2018, I endured a tough season in my life—that's why the whole lower right corner has to do with healing and pain. It was a really great way to remind myself that this year will be better.
Inspired?
I certainly hope so! However, you don't have to do this craft by yourself: get a group together and each of you can make your own vision board. I highly recommend doing it with other people, it makes it 10x more fun. If you try this trend, tag @savvysays_blog on Instagram and you could be featured! Happy crafting!
